Insanity Poem Insanity

I’ve seen them in this white washed room,
Always watching me,
Shapes and shadows dancing and jeering,
Always laughing at me,
I try to twist my hands but still,
The jacket presses them tightly to me,
I roll and I scream yet the shadows still dance around me,
Biting and poking and laughing and joking they dance and dance and dance,
I start to laugh and have such fun as the gremlins tickle me with their tongues,
Hee hee ha ha ho ho!! They’re taking me to the happy home!

I've never entered one of these contests before so thought I'd give it a try.

Originally I was going to add something more to this but because I'm at the end of my semester I haven't got the time. Might be better this way because my original idea might not have been qualified as a portrait. It still bugs me that he didn't look enough like Johnny Depp, more like a cartoon of him. Meh, I hate that. Since the story takes place in the 70's I wanted to lighten up this vampire's surroundings a bit but not using intense colors because they just wouldn't work. The lava lamp attracts enough attention as it is.

Ah, the ever morose Barnabas Collins... He had brooding down to an art form. Not only have you captured Mr. Depp, but also elements of his predecessor, Mr. Frid. In how that you've stylized his facial features and hands, I detect a nod to Edward Gorey, illustrator of the macabre. Whether this was subconscious on your part, or not, it still adds an air of whimsy appropriate to the Burton-Depp interpretation of Barnabas Collins.

There is so much to like in this piece. I think the pose is both telling and amusing--the glumness of his expression and the slouch of his body speak of utter dejection. What few elements of color there are-- the purple majesty of drapery, similar moonlit hues upon the floor tiles, glowing orange-red lamp, a maroon velvet chair, blood- red ascot--all try mightily to cheer this fellow up. He won't have it; so, sullenly he sits.

A tale you do weave with your artful rendition of Mr. Collins' world of dark shadows. (The glow of the Lava Lamp upon the table and books is priceless.)

Wow, thanks! Though I can't say I know of Mr. Frid or Edward Gorey, but I think I may look into that some time.

I really went for a scene to say it all, but alas that's not what the judges wanted.

I don't think you get to meet him, it's just that he gets to decide the grand prize winner.

Don't be discourage of me, before I finished this I browsed the latest submissions and found someone else already did this and a whole lot better. I moped for about ten minutes before reluctantly painting again.

Maybe you're right, but I have no idea what to draw, and even if I did, right now I have no way to scan it. ...... I'll figure something out, God damn it!
