Final Model Sheet: Mountain Goliath

Description

The final assignment was to create a hybrid character and build a model sheet. The requirements were 4 poses showing the front, back, side and 3/4 view (But I got out of drawing the back because my character has little detail there), 3 expressions, 3 action poses with one fully colored.

Great assignment, but everyone had to make these in about 24 hours or less. Absolutely draining. All yesterday I was racing the clock trying to finish this before the final critique. Luckily the industries don't demand full model sheets in such little time, but we were applauded for completing them. The story behind this character was not flushed out too well due to time and as you can see I didn't go for simplicity in his design. I can hardly achieve simplicity.

Drawing a character like this over and over again was tiring and I'm sad that all my detail work in those other poses are all shrunk down (because I have large drawings for all of them). The hardest part was making the character turn and making sure everything lined up accordingly. I researched lion anatomy before making this, well not just lions, but lots of different parts in order to pull him together.

By taking this class I've learned that I have to do my homework before creating a character and even then I have to make a thousand drawings before coming to the perfect one. This class was hard, fun and I'm sad it's all over.

Ref sheets... now we can all draw Mountain Goliaths! Looks like a beast belonging to one of those creature character books. There's a job for that.

Now that's an inspiring and well done character sheet without too much information. You kept it short and simple, yet spawn a great piece.
Your mountain goliath rocks!

Mind if I do something similar?
